🔋 Understanding the HV hybrid battery
How long does a hybrid battery last?
A High Voltage (HV) hybrid battery has an average lifespan of 150,000 to 250,000 km, or roughly 10 to 15 years depending on use. This varies with vehicle model, driving style, climate conditions and overall maintenance. An SOH (State of Health) diagnosis gives you a precise picture of your battery's actual condition.
How do I know if my hybrid battery is dead?
Several signs can indicate a failing or dead hybrid battery:
  • Significant increase in fuel consumption
  • Noticeable loss of power or acceleration
  • Warning triangle or check engine light coming on
  • Fault code P0A80, P3000 or C1241 detected via OBD scanner
  • Limp-home mode at startup (reduced power)
  • Battery charge fluctuating abnormally

If in doubt, a free SOH diagnosis by our experts will give you a precise answer within 48 hours.

What's the difference between replacement and refurbishment?

Replacement means substituting the entire HV battery pack with a new unit. This is the right solution when the battery is too degraded or beyond repair. Starting from €1,950* (excluding travel fees).

Refurbishment means replacing the existing pack with a refurbished, tested second-hand unit. It's a cost-effective (40–60% savings) and eco-friendly solution suited to partially dead batteries. Starting from €1,250* (excluding travel fees).

Our experts recommend the best-suited solution after diagnosis.

Can I drive with a dead hybrid or electric battery?
Technically a hybrid vehicle can often keep driving with a degraded HV battery, on the combustion engine alone. However, this isn't recommended for several reasons: heavy fuel over-consumption, risk of damage to the constantly-stressed combustion engine, reduced safety, and possible worsening of battery damage. We recommend getting your vehicle diagnosed quickly.

Is the Toyota Prius the most affected by HV battery failures?
The Toyota Prius is indeed one of the most common hybrid models in France and thus the most frequently affected by HV battery failures, particularly the 2004–2015 generations. Fault codes P3011 to P3027 (module failure) and P0A80 (battery needs replacing) are the most commonly encountered on this model. That said, the Prius remains a very reliable vehicle and refurbishing its HV battery is now a perfectly mastered operation for our technicians.
